Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson
Sportsbook.com Odds
- Slice (-600) WON
- Thompson (+400)
We have all seen on You Tube what Kimbo is capable of doing to someone’s face. He’s an intimidating, scary man. Kimbo likes to stalk down his opponents and bring the action to you. He prefers to stand and strike, although he has been working on his ground game, which is not a place he’s comfortable. Taking his opponents to the ground is something I’m sure Kimbo fans would like to see. He is always looking for the KO punch to put you to sleep. This fight is going to be another warm up match for Kimbo. They need to put in front of him an opponent with more experience.
James Thompson will have an advantage in that he is taller than Kimbo at 6′5″ and over 250 pounds. He is from Britain and has a record of fourteen wins and eight losses. He also prefers to stand up and strike with his opponents, which should give Kimbo the advantage. He does not have a very strong chin and Kimbo will surely test that out. Even if he can take Kimbo to the ground, which will be his only chance to win, he doesn’t have a very strong ground game. Kimbo will win this fight with a KO late in the first round.
Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith
Bodoglife.com Odds
- Lawler (-220) WON
- Smith (+180)
“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler vs. Scott “Hands of Stone” Smith should be a pretty good match up. Lawler currently holds the EliteXC middleweight belt, which he took from Murilu Rua last September by TKO, due to strikes. Lawler has won seven of his last eight fights. He has fifteen wins, twelve by KO, and four losses. He is going up against Scott Smith, who has thirteen wins, eleven by KO and also has four losses. Both of these fighters have very good KO power.
Lawler has a very aggressive style in the octagon. He is known for his strength and punching power. This is his first title defense in the EliteXC. Robbie will always try to finish the fight with a KO and always delivers an exciting performance. He likes to stand and strike with his opponents and has a no fear attitude. He will have his hands full against Smith. Both of their fighting styles are very similar and someone in this fight will get Knocked Out before the five rounds are up. One of my favorite fights was Lawler vs. Diaz at UFC 47. Lawler lost the fight by KO, but it was a great battle.
Smith has won his last two fights with a first and second round KO. Smith was on the TUF4, where he defeated Pete Sail by KO and was 1-4 in the UFC. He was then dropped from the UFC and now has signed with EliteXC. Smith was a solid investment for EliteXC, whereas he has a lot of promise and fight to offer. Smith’s style is standing and trading leather, which makes this fight so exciting. The fans can expect a brawl, with neither man backing down.
This fight is very tough to judge, but I’m giving the advantage to Lawler with a KO in the third round.
Phil Baroni vs. Joey Villasenor
Bodoglife.com Odds
- Baroni (-125)
- Villasenor (-105) WON
This will be another great fight between ‘The New York Badass’ Phil Baroni and Joey ‘Smokin Joe’ Villasenor. Phil is more of a boxer, and prefers standing and trade shots. Baroni has 10 wins. Of these wins, 7 were by way of knock out and two by sumbssion. Joey is more well rounded with his 25 wins. 11 of those wins by KO and 10 by submission.
Phil stands 5′9, with 185 pounds of solid muscle. He is a great boxer with knock out power and has a strong wrestling background. He was a two-time all American collegiate wrestler from Central Michigan University. Phil is very intense and has explosive power. He looks to finish fights with his hands. He has lost 3 of his last 4 fights and desperately needs to win. We should expect to see the ‘New York Badass’ come out on Saturday.
Joey Villasenor come in at 6′0 and 185 pounds. His background is boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has excellent stand up and great submissions. He has been victorious 3 out of his last 4 fights with 1 knock out and two decisions. I see him starting off this fight boxing. If Baroni is getting the best of it he will try to get the take down and look for a submission. Joey has the beter all around game.
This is another tough call, but I see Villasenor taking the victory by decision at the end of the third round.
Jon Murphy vs. Brett Rogers
Bodoglife.com Odds
- Murphy (+220)
- Rogers (-280) WON
I don’t know much about these two fighters. Rogers is coming in at (-225) favorite, while Murphy is (+185) underdog.
Murphy is big and strong at 6′3, 255 lbs. His background is freestyle with an MMA record of 4-2. Rogers is very solid and even bigger at 6′5, 265 lbs. He is also a freestyle fighter, with an unblemished record of 7-0. Rogers would like to make himself a household name, with a big knock out over Murphy.
From what I’ve read about these two fighters, I’m giving Rogers a second round KO over Murphy.
Kaitlin Young vs. Gina Corano
Bodoglife.com Odds
- Young (+275)
- Corano (-350) WON
This should be a pretty evenly matched bout between Kaitlin Young and Gina Corano. I’ve never actually seen a women’s MMA event, so I’m anxious to see how it turns out.
Kaitlin is 5′9 and 135 lbs. She is very strong and has knock out power. Her fighting background is Muy Thai. Kaitlin made her name in November 2007 when she won The Hook and Shoot Event by Bodog Fight. She had three impressive knock outs, totalling only one minute and forty-five seconds in the ring for all three matches total. She is currently 4-1 with 3 KOs. She is coming off her first loss and looking to redeem herself.
Kaitlin’s opponent is undefeated Gina Corano. Gina is 5-0 with two knock outs and one submission win. She stands 5′8, 141 lbs. with a background in boxing, Muy Thai, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She has a Muy Thai record of 12-1-1. Gina will look to strike and use her kicks to end the fight.
Gina Corano is the more experienced fighter, so I’m taking her to win this fight with a decision after the third round.

WEC Fight Breakdown: Urijah Faber Vs. Jens Pulver
May 27, 2008
This is going to be a great match up between The ‘California Kid’ Urijah Faber and Jens ‘Little Evil’ Pulver. This will be Faber’s 5th WEC featherweight title defense. He will be facing is toughest opponent to date. Pulver is very experienced and is extremely dangerous. Faber will have the fans backing him on this fight, seeing that this fight is in his hometown of Sacramento at the Arco Arena. For Faber Pulver odds we now have them listed.
Faber stands 5′6 and 145 pounds. He prefers to wrestle, but can also strike with the best in his weight class. He has 7 KO’s and 10 submissions. He wrestled at UC Davis where he became the all-time win leader and two-time NCAA Division I qualifier. He’s on a 12 fight win streak with his only loss coming by Tyson Griffin in 2005. Faber is considered by many as one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world. His advantages are his brute strength and wrestling skills, where he will try to submit you. I see him taking this fight to the mat, where he has an advantage over Pulver.
Pulver stands at 5′7 and 145 pounds. Therefore, there is no size advantage for either fighter in this match. Pulver was also a Division I wrestler for Boise State University. He captured the very first UFC lightweight championship belt in 2001, where he then successfully defended it twice against Caol Uno and BJ Penn. He then left the UFC due to contractual problems. He was also a coach on the TUF 5 reality show, where he met up for a rematch against fellow coach BJ Penn. He lost this fight to Penn by a rear naked choke in the second round. Pulver used to be a professional boxer with a 4-0 record before switching over to MMA. If this fight stays in the middle of the octagon on their feet I can see Pulver knocking out Faber. Since dropping down to 145 pounds featherweight, Pulver is 8-0. He looks much stronger and comfortable at this weight class.
This will be a fight not to be missed. There is no bad blood between the two in this fight. Both fighters respect each other. Faber feels he is much quicker than Pulver, while Pulver plans to land hard shots and control the ground. At a (+220) underdog, I believe Pulver is not getting enough credit going into this fight.
I’m taking Pulver by a KO in the third round. He’s got a lot to prove and wants to get that belt and stay on top here in the WEC. Odds and betting are currently available at Bodoglife.com
Fight Breakdown: Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson
May 27, 2008

James ‘Kimbo Slice’ Ferguson the street fighting sensation, now an EliteXC heavyweight fighter is set to take on James ‘Colossus’ Thompson in the main event on the first ever CBS broadcasting of an MMA event. This is a big deal to have a station like CBS broadcasting the fight. Bets can now be made at Sportsbook.com with -600 for Slice and +400 for Thompson.
Kimbo is an animal, seriously
Kimbo Slice has a 2-0 MMA record with one knock out and one submission. Kimbo has said, ‘The only thing I want to do is win, but the main thing is I want to break something along the way - a chin or jaw, rib, arm, some skin, anything.’ Watching him speak these words says it all. This man is a beast and very intimidating to the eye. He trains with former UFC champion and MMA legend Bas Rutten. Kimbo is looking to improve his technique and all around skills.
What Thompson needs to do for a victory
This match up suits Kimbo because Thompson is a brawler as well. Thompson will either knock out his opponents or he gets knocked out himself. The only way Kimbo could possibly lose is if Thompson can take him down and exploit his ground game. Few have seen Kimbo fight on the ground, so it would be a huge advantage to Thompson if he could get Kimbo to the mat. I don’t see this happening. Although Kimbo’s two MMA fights did not last long, his skills have impressed some. He has devastating KO power and moves well for a heavyweight.
Thompson is 14-8, with 9 KO’s and 4 submissions. He has lost 3 of his last 4 fights all by knock out. He has knocked out Don Frye and Hideniko Yoshida, which I believe are close matches with Kimbo. Like I previously mentioned, he will either knock out Kimbo or get knocked out himself. Thompson is big and strong. He likes to start his fights off quickly and rush right at his opponents. We can expect Thompson to get right in Kimbo’s face and brawl.
My Prediction
Thompson has a punchers chance in this fight, but that’s all I’m getting him. Kimbo wins late in the first round by KO. For odds visit our Kimbo - Thompson odds page.

Ortiz Vs Machida Fight Breakdown UFC 84
May 24, 2008

This fight may steal the attention away from the main fight of Penn vs. Sherk. There is so much attention being put on Tito vs. Dana White and their fight. Tito must first put away a hungry Lyoto Machida, which is going to be a very good match. The camera will be on Dana White probably as much as Tito. I can see Dana cheering for Machida to destroy Tito and send him packing to another organization. He has only lost to two fighters since the year 2000. Those losses being to Liddel and Couture. This fight is extremely important to Tito, his fans, and his future. He will be leaving the UFC after this bout and looks like EliteXC will pick him up for a large amount of dough. Tito can always sell tickets and draws PPV viewers. He always brings excitement and drama to his fights, and is a fan favorite.
What Tito needs to do
This fight comes down to one thing; can Tito take down Machida? We know Tito will come out at first on his feet striking, but will eventually go for the shoot. In his past fights, Tito has been shooting too soon and from too far away, giving his opponents time to react and sprawl. Tito is a much bigger lightweight then Machida and if he is successful on his take-downs, I believe he will ride out the decision with elbows and punches from the ground. Tito claims he is 100% healthy and injure-free. I would love to see the old Tito with the heart and passion in his take-downs. If Machida does not stop Tito’s take downs, he’s in for a world of hurt.
What Lyoto needs to do
Lyoto has never taken any real punishment in the octagon, with a perfect 12-0 record, he stands right among the best in the lightweight division. Dana is hoping he’ll give Tito a nice going away beat down. Lyoto has great stand up and if he can stop Tito take-down attempts, it will be a long 3 rounr Tito. Machida doesn’t possess knock out power, but he has enough to get you thinking if he does indeed land one. Even if Tito takes Machida down, he doesn’t have a weak ground game. He’ll make Tito work at it or end up getting back to his feet.
“Dana is my Bitch”
I still think Tito knows what he needs to do and is determined to leave the UFC on top with a win. Lets see if Dana lets him get on the mic after the fight, especially with the t-shirt he was sporting at the weigh-in that read ‘Dana is my Bitch’! Even though Tito is the big underdog here, I still see the fight going all three rounds, with Tito taking the decision.

UFC 84 Penn Vs Sherk Fight Breakdown
May 22, 2008

This will be the most anticipated fight of the year thus far. It will be loaded with trash talk, controversy, and explosive excitement! This is a fight not to be missed.
Sherk is here to prove the belt belongs to him and win back the UFC fans he has lost as a result of the steroid controversy. Penn wants to show that he is determined and focused, with much improved cardio. This fight should end up being a great show for all fans.
Sherk has superb wrestling skills , great takedowns, and cardio that is among the best. Penn, on the otherhand, has far better striking, grapling, and flexibility. Penn will have the advantage if this fight stays on their feet. Sherk says he wants to stand and use his hands, but we all know he will most likely shoot for the takedown, where he is the most comfortable. He will then look to ground and pound. Sherk wants to take Penn down and use his size and muscle to control Penn on the mat. He will then try to pass guard and mount Penn. Sherk has the ability to pass guard. It will be tough, but if he does, will Sherk be able to capitalize on top or will he just hold Penn down for most of the fight?
The question is can Sherk take Penn down? In the past Penn has had trouble with good wrestlers such as Matt Hughes and Georges St.Pierre. I believe Penn will be too much for Sherk to handle. Penn’s striking will steadily wear him out and will deny most of Sherks take downs. Although Sherk is very stocky up top with a large neck which will be tough for Penn to get a hold of. Penn is very comfortable on his back which he try every submission attempt he owns. Penn has won his last two fights with a rear naked choke.
A very confident Penn has said what will Sherk do when he puts him on his back and rains punches and elbows. Something Sherk isnt used to experiencing in the Octogon. I think Sherk in the later rounds will become frutrated by getting his take down attempts denied and be careless then get caught in a submission.

UFC 84 Predictions - Penn vs Sherk
May 19, 2008
BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk
Bodoglife.com Odds
- Penn (-250)
- Sherk (+200)
“My bet is Sean Sherk for $100 to win $200″
Fight Predictions
This fight will be explosive, with high intensity right as the bell rings. Sherk is here to take back the belt he lost and that he feels was wrongfully stripped from him after the steroid case. Penn just came off a great submission win over Joe Stevenson to claim the lightweight championship belt. Immediately after winning the belt, in his interview, he called out Sean Sherk and claimed he was a ‘dead man’. Sherk was at that fight and came into the octagon after Penn called him out, sparking the fury between them. There is bad blood flowing between the two and we can expect a thrilling fight. People have questioned Penn’s cardio in the later rounds; while Sherk could probably go a good ten rounds.
BJ says he going to finish him in the first round, while Sherk plans on taking this fight to the floor where he usually dominates. Overall, Penn is a more well-rounded fighter and has an excellent ground game. Sherk is going to have a hard time trying to take Penn to the mat. I think Penn will win by majority decision at the end of the fifth round. The odds of +200 on Sherk are too good to pass up on such a close fight.
Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida
Bodoglife.com Odds
- Lyoto (-200)
- Tito (+160)
“My Bet Tito Ortiz for $100 to win $160″
Fight Predictions
This is a big fight for both opponents. Lyoto is 12-0 in his MMA career and 4-0 in the UFC. Ranked at #4 in the world, a win over Tito would solidify his name with the light heavy weights and soon put him in contention for a title fight. Tito wants this fight to show he still is a force to be reckoned with. Currently #10 in the world, this will be Tito’s last fight with UFC. He needs a decisive win to be more attractive for other MMA leagues to want to sign a contract. Tito would love nothing more than to leave the UFC with a win and shut up Dana White, with whom he has had an ongoing feud with over the years. We need to see the old Tito, aggressive and determined, taking Lyoto to the mat for his patent ground and pound. If this fight stays on their feet, I would give this fight to Lyoto. Tito is the underdog coming into the fight. At +160 I think he’s a good bet and as long as he can take Lyoto down to the mat, I say Tito wins by decision.
Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine
Bodoglife.com Odds
- Silva (-160)
- Jardine (+130)
“My bet is Wanderlei Silva for $160 to win $100.”
Fight Predictions
Wanderlei needs this win more than anyone on the fight card. Coming off three straight losses, he knows if he can’t get through Jardine he will drop down the top light heavy weight list. In preparation for this important fight, Silva has recruited the help of UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture and his team to prepare and train for this battle. Jardine is confident, coming from a huge win over Chuck Liddell. Silva’s last loss was to Liddell, giving Jardine more confidence coming into this fight. The question is can he handle the aggressive style and persistent pressure Silva will bring upon him? With Silva consistently bringing the fight to him, Jardine won’t be able to release his devastating kicks, which has brought him success in his past fights. This should be an exciting fight, but I’m giving the edge to Silva, with a second round TKO.
