UFC 97: Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites Early Prediction

March 21, 2009

With slightly less than a month to go before the Middleweight Title showdown between champion Anderson “Spider” Silva and Thales Leites, gamblers may be well served to keep an eye on the betting lines. For obvious reasons, Silva is going to be a prohibitive favorite. He has wrecked his way through UFC’s 185 pound ranks, putting opponents to sleep like an anesthesiologist. Every time it has appeared Silva was finally in trouble, for instance against Travis Lutter and Dan Henderson, he has found a way to come roaring back and turn his opponent’s lights off. Silva’s striking is so dynamic and potent that it’s hard to pick against him in any fight.      Anderson Silva -525 / Thales Leites +325 odds

The upcoming showdown is no exception. Leites is dangerous and well-rounded, but Silva has dissected more skilled fighters with far more experience than Leites. That said, for obvious reasons, betting on Leites is probably going to be fairly light. What that means to you is that, as the pace of wagering picks up, Silva will no doubt become a more and more prohibitive favorite. If there is such a thing as a safe bet on a favorite in MMA, Anderson Silva is that safe bet, especially in this fight. That’s why I advise everyone to keep an eye on the lines at the big online wagering sites.

For every point that Silva’s line increases, your potential profit margin decreases. That said, it might be a good idea to get some money down on Silva now, before the action makes the odds even less favorable. MMAbettingblog.com will be providing, as usual, a full breakdown of this matchup, and the rest of the card, closer to fight time, but for now anyone interested in making a little bit of safe money would be well served to catch Silva before the odds explode.

Oh, and for you Leites fans, feel free to watch the lines yourselves, throw down some cash, and try to laugh at us all the way to the bank.

WEC 40: Miguel Torres vs. Takeya Mizugaki Odds

March 18, 2009

Live on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.  Miguel Torres (35-1) will look to defend his Bantamweight title for a third time against Takeya Mizugaki (11-2-2).   The Japanese fighter Mizugaki is a replacement for the injured Brian Bowles. Torres has run thorugh the bantamweight division winning 16 straight fights with his only loss dating back to November 2003.  Torres wins most of his fights via submission were he is a jiu jitsu black belt. He demonstrated some excellent striking in his last outing against Manny Tapia. Tapia believed he had the better striking and was looking to keep the fight standing which proved to be wrong. Mizugaki is on a five fight win streak and should give Torres a good fight.

Also on the card from Team Alpha Male is undefeated Joseph Benavidez (9-0) taking on former featherweight number one contender Jeff Curran who will be making his bantamweight debut.

Strikeforce: Frank Shamrock vs. Nick Diaz Odds

March 18, 2009

Update:  For the Fedor vs Rogers Strikeforce odds we have the page now posted.

Live on Saturday, April 1, 2009 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Frank Shamrock (23-9-2) will meet Nick Diaz (18-7) at a catch weight of 179 lbs. Both fighters are known for running their mouths and should turn into an instant grudge match. Shamrock and Diaz will enter the ring with intentions of hurting each other.  Also on the card we get to see the rematch of Josh Thomson (16-2-1) now  defending the belt he took from Gilbert Melendez (14-2) back in June 2008. We had hoped to see Christiane “Cyborg” Santos fighting Gina Carano, but we will have to settle for one of the two as Cyborg takes on submission artist Hitomi Akano (14-5). If Cyborg wins this fight we should see Carano next on the list.
