UFC 96: Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz Prediction

Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz

In a compelling Light Heavyweight matchup, powerhouse wrestler Matt “The Hammer” Hamill will be pitted against WEC veteran Mark “The Phillipine Wrecking Machine” Munoz.

Munoz is undefeated so far in his five fight career, but Hamill is less a step up in competition for him than he is a massive, canyon-spanning leap, so Munoz is going to have to give the performance of a lifetime to stay alive in this one.

Munoz, primarily a striker at this early stage of his career, earned his first shot at UFC glory as a result of WEC’s closure of their heavier weight classes. Whether he is ready for the step up in competition is unclear, but either way he is being thrown to the sharks right out of the gate against a wrestler as powerful as Hamill.

The one glimmer of hope for Munoz is that Hamill’s standup is still very much a work in progress, and so if Munoz can get out of the gate quickly and aggressively, he may be able to overwhelm Hamill with punches.

More likely, though, is that Hamill will secure an early takedown and control the duration of the bout with his deadly effective top control. Once this fight hits the ground, Munoz’s hopes are pretty much dead.

I see Hamill roaring out of the gates, taking Munoz down, punishing him for a while, and finally pounding him out in the second round.

Munoz is a highly decorated high school and collegiate wrestler. He also has a much better standup game than Matt Hamill. As we all know, Matt can be quite lethargic in the cage, and I’d like to see Munoz come in quickly and get the TKO before he gives Matt the chance to secure a takedown. I feel like Hamill might have a slight advantage in experience and on the ground, but Munoz is no walk through the park. Hamill will have to be at the top of his game to pull out the win. I’m all for Munoz this time, i hate the way Hamill fights and I’d like to see him take another one to the stomach (way to go rich!) and tap out due to strikes. Unlikely, but everyone can dream! This is gonna be a fight!

I think someone should look at the fighters back grounds, mark is a more accomplished wrestler, he is a NCAA div 1 national champion,I also believe he placed 4th or 5th in the olympic trials with a seperated shoulder. also he is a lot faster my money is on mark munoz.
