Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao Odds

November 18, 2008

Update:  Dec. 7, 2008 -  If you missed the fight we have the Pacquiao - Delahoya video here.

The current odds for this fight are (-165 Hoya / +135 Pacquiao at Sportsbook.com)

Live on Saturday December 6, 2008 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Live on HBO PPV.  The Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya (39-5)   will square of with Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao (47-3-2)  .

Oscar is taking this fight very seriously and is back training in Big Bear, California where the air is very thin making your body work extremely hard. Oscar is 3-2 in his last five fights, most recently winning a unanimous decision over Steve Forbes.

De La Hoya will come into this fight with a bigger frame, height advantage, weight advantage, and power advantage.  Don’t let all those facts fool you, this will not be as easy as it may appear on paper.  He is older, loosing some of his speed and tenacity.

Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao, also known by some as the Mexican Assassin.  Will look to add De La Hoya to his resume of very talented and skilled Mexican fighters he has put away.  He may be smaller, but has youth, speed, stamina, power, and the will to take this fight to Oscar.

Pac Man is riding on an eight fight win streak and will have the people of the Philippines on his shoulder. This has the makings of a very exciting fight, so be prepared to see both fighters in the best shape of their life. Oscar is looking to end his career on a high note and Pacquiao looking for bigger fights in the future.

This will be a great fight to watch and bet on. All you pacquiao fans don’t wait too long to place your bet as the margin may slim down closer to the fight. Oscar fans take advantage of this David vs. Goliath match up and cash in. Sign up at Sportsbook.com and get your bets in soon.

De La Hoya may be the legend, but Pacquiao’s an up-and-comer to be feared…definitely wouldn’t want to be stuck in a ring with either of `em, but I know I’d have less of a chance of survival against Manny. He’s got my wager!

My opinion is that ths fight is no different than all the other De La Hoya fights. It’s a business fight. It will promote that no other Mexican fighter has beaten Many. It would be glorious if Oscar was to win. On the other hand the fight will make a lot of money. This fight wouldn’t affect Many at all if he were to lose since he is competing against a fighter with much prestige. Hopefully it’s a fight worth the millions of dollars all us fans are paying to watch.

I think Oscar is going to win this fight he is the bigger more experienced man. His business partner, Bernard Hopkins, recently won a huge fight over Pavlik. Giving Oscar motivation to prove he is still a force to be reckon. A couple of weeks ago I went to see Pac mans brother lose at the HP Pavillion, the fight came down to a decision; I think Pac Man is due for his brothers fate.

I think the fight can go either way. If Manny looses his composure and starts to swing without caution he could get clipped by Oscar’s hooks or crosses. This could result in a early to mid round stoppage of Manny. Although possible I don’t think Manny will make such a mistake. The fight would probably be a tactical match with each opponent trying to figure out the other similar to the Mayweather Delahoya or even Hopkins and Delahoya. Manny is more of a risk taker which makes him an exciting fighter. Oscar on the other hand was not able to knock out Forbes and his face looked like he was the looser. At this point I am betting on Manny to be the slight favorite. If Manny looses it is his own fault for not being extra cautions to Oscar. If Oscar wins, this would not be a great defeat as he is going up against someone who started out at 106 lbs. In fact I see Oscar as taking an easy fight due to difference in size. I would compare this to Oscar going up against the likes of Calzaghe, something that would never happen.

I am here to say a couple of things.
I understand that this fight is business for both sides. I will say however that MAnny is the better power puncher. Tactically speaking, Oscar has the edge based on his experience.
Nonetheless, Oscar will win by knockout and will then challenge BHOP for a rematch and make many more milions of dollars.
It will be a great fight and worth the expense of PPV.
    Does anyone agree with me?

yo creo que oscar de la hoya si pelea a distancia va a ganar, porque tiene sus brazos mas largos. Solamente va a perder si se pone al tu por tu…. es tocho

oscar has this fight with out a doubt
if oscar losses this fight it will be the end of his career and if he wins he would go on to more and more fights
if pacquiao losses it wont affect him much he is a boxer with much future to come
pacquiao has never faught a tactical and a strong power puncher like oscar
sure the weight didnt look like it had much affect when he faught diaz but diaz is not even close tp having the skills power and intelligence oscar has
he will still put on 10 more pound and walking in the ring it will probably be 6-9 pounds extra he will be carrying
those pounds will not just make him slower but maybe his condition will be affected to and while dealing with all that he will also be dealing with stronger punches from oscar
i got my money on oscar !

I just wanted to know, how much did dela hoya won on betting against him.
The match was definitely fixed and even if its not, it is one of the worst boxing fights ever. The pre fight talks was definitely better because talk is cheap!!!

Harry - Oscar is a business man more than a boxer now, well not any more. They hype it up on HBO because he knows how much money they’ll rake in for the PPV commission. Sad but I think he knew he had no chance.

After his last beating and all the money he still made it was obvious was he was doing here. He draws huge crowds and took advantage of it one last time…
