WEC 36: Urijah Faber vs. Mike Brown Prediction
October 27, 2008
Urijah Faber vs Mike Brown
Urijah Faber will look to defend his title for a sixth time, against the number one contender Mike Brown.
Urijah “The California Kid” Faber (20-1) looked extremely good against Pulver in his last performance. I did not think his stand up would be as sharp as Pulver’s, but as we all saw it has improved tremendously. Faber a superb division 1 wrestler out punched, wrestled, grappled Pulver to a 5 round unanimous decision. Faber is also equipped with great take down and submission defense.
Faber is the number one featherweight in the world with the most overall skills in his class. Look for Urijah to start off boxing and if he is successful there, will continue to box Brown. If he finds trouble on his feet, he always has his wrestling and take downs to back him up if he needs to ground and pound Brown to a win.
Faber is looking to continue his win streak and bring it up to 13 in a row. I believe it will take a world class striker with excellent take down defense to defeat Faber, which Brown is not.
Mike Brown (17-4) is a very game opponent who trains with American Top Team. He holds notable victories over Mark Hominick, Yves Edwards, and most recent a unanimous decision over Jeff Curran at WEC 34 in June.
Brown is a well-rounded submission fighter and currently riding a seven fight win streak. Brown has taken 9 out of his 17 wins by submission. He must be careful as he will find problems trying to take down Faber. Brown has fought at 155 and 145 pounds, but feels more natural in the WEC at 145.
Brown will have home field advantage fighting in Florida, and will definitely give Faber a tough fight. I don’t believe it will be enough for his eighth victory in a row.
Look for Faber getting the best of everywhere the fight goes. I am thinking it will look similar to the Pulver fight. I’m calling Faber with a hard fought unanimous decision.

I was in shock. I figured it was just another fight I had not seen yet with another Faber win. Wow! I was wondering when I was going to see the day when Faber lost. Brown looked awesome. You could tell Faber was getting mad, especially after Brown pushed him down. Brown caught him and man handled him. He has so much power!

I don’t know what that guy’s been smokin’, but his prediction of a Faber decision over Mike Brown is total fantasy. First, Jens Pulver is the Chuck Liddel of his division. He’s on his way out the door, in the process of being beaten by everyone in the process. And as he (Jens) takes beating after beating, he loses just a little bit more of what he used to have. Tick-tock Jens, sorry. So, to rant about Faber’s victory over Pulver is just a tad short-sighted. Rather, look at the recent destruction of Leonard Garcia by Mike Brown. THAT should scare the hell out of anyone brave enough to get in the ring with him. Brown is still on his way UP , and Faber is going to get his bloody head knocked off. It doesn’t matter when, or what round, or how long Faber can run and hide. It’s only a matter of time, because Brown WILL catch him, and he will KO the pretty boy.

I think Mike Brown is a well rounded fighter but i dont think he has what it takes to beat Urijah Faber again. I think Faber had a mess up and Brown acted on it. I tkink Brown better be ready this time because Faber will bring the heat. He will be ready to take back what belongs to him.

Wow, that prediction could not have been more wrong. I actually thought the fight against Pulver was a little surprising and expected Faber to knock Pulver out. After seeing Pulver’s fight tonight end early in round one and then seeing Faber’s fight end early in round one both to TKO, it really makes me wonder about a couple of the other fighters in this weight division. Pulver is just one dissapointment after another. Penn, Faber, Garcia……. But I was glad to see him truly get his ass kicked tonight.
Pulver, in his pre-fight smack talk really underestimated Garcia’s punching power. I mean that dude hits hard. I’m glad Faber finally got beat and felt he should have gotten beat just for the hairdo in the Pulver fight. What the hell was up the the Corn-Row fiasco.
What is up with the Champ Fihlo being 5 pounds overweight for a title fight? Did he stop by MCDonald’s on the way to the weigh in and have the #5 SUPERSIZED? And what the hell was that dude on during the fight? How does that happen in a rematch title fight. Then want to lay on his back the whole fight?
It really was some great fights tonight in the respect that the champions, and so called “legend” got beat. We need some fresh meet holding the hardware so things don’t get stale and too much like professional wrestling.
