Fight Breakdown: Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson

James ‘Kimbo Slice’ Ferguson the street fighting sensation, now an EliteXC heavyweight fighter is set to take on James ‘Colossus’ Thompson in the main event on the first ever CBS broadcasting of an MMA event.  This is a big deal to have a station like CBS broadcasting the fight.  Bets can now be made at Sportsbook.com with -600 for Slice and +400 for Thompson.

Kimbo is an animal, seriously
Kimbo Slice has a 2-0 MMA record with one knock out and one submission.  Kimbo has said, ‘The only thing I want to do is win, but the main thing is I want to break something along the way - a chin or jaw, rib, arm, some skin, anything.’  Watching him speak these words says it all.  This man is a beast and very intimidating to the eye.  He trains with former UFC champion and MMA legend Bas Rutten.  Kimbo is looking to improve his technique and all around skills. 

What Thompson needs to do for a victory
This match up suits Kimbo because Thompson is a brawler as well.  Thompson will either knock out his opponents or he gets knocked out himself.  The only way Kimbo could possibly lose is if Thompson can take him down and exploit his ground game.  Few have seen Kimbo fight on the ground, so it would be a huge advantage to Thompson if he could get Kimbo to the mat.  I don’t see this happening.  Although Kimbo’s two MMA fights did not last long, his skills have impressed some.  He has devastating KO power and moves well for a heavyweight.

Thompson is 14-8, with 9 KO’s and 4 submissions.  He has lost 3 of his last 4 fights all by knock out.  He has knocked out Don Frye and Hideniko Yoshida, which I believe are close matches with Kimbo.  Like I previously mentioned, he will either knock out Kimbo or get knocked out himself.  Thompson is big and strong.  He likes to start his fights off quickly and rush right at his opponents.  We can expect Thompson to get right in Kimbo’s face and brawl.

My Prediction
Thompson has a punchers chance in this fight, but that’s all I’m getting him.  Kimbo wins late in the first round by KO.  For odds visit our Kimbo - Thompson odds page.

    Kimo should be happy that he didn’t fight someone with good ground skills.
    Anyone that still thinks Kimo is all that after this fight, needs a reality check.
    He is going to get beat and beat soundly in the future if they put him in there with anyone worth a dam and James Thompson is not a great fighter but gave Kimo all he wanted. So funny. Nigara would kill Kimo.
    Tim Sylva would kill him as well.

    The thing is I dont think they will put Kimbo against a good fighter. EliteXC doesn’t want him to lose, they were probably glad the fight was stopped. All about the $$$ which is why I hate boxing. They need Kimbo in.

    kimbo slice killed thompson out their , sure kimbo was on the ground but he didnt panic, he hung on to wild thompson.

    he seen thompsons ear and started pounding away i think he did a hell of a job containg big man thompson.!!!

    i think thompson did a smart thing he held on to big man kimbo, weighing kimbo down, but kimbo is strong and good he pulled out of thompson and took advantage by punching his messed up ear.

    kimbo tap at the 1st round, thompson seing it loosen the guillotine a bit but didn’t let go just to make sure. kimbo feeling the guillotine no longer presurred his neck gives a thumbs-up sign to the ref. i think that’s the reason why thompson was talking while holding kimbo, he was arguing with the ref… its a FIX fight for eliteXC poster boy “kimbo”. i don’t hate kimbo i like how he work hard to be a legit MMA fighter but this fight pissed me. he didn’t work hard for this BS. i don’t like him anymore, he need to be favored by the ref to win.

    1st off- jake west…you are a fool!!! Kimbo tapped in the 1st round and the ref allowed it to continue. Thompson only loosened the guillotine choke BECAUSE kimbo tapped. 2nd round- kimbo was beaten for over a minute straight. In any legit league, the ref would have stopped the fight due to utter domination on the ground and a lack of movement or defense by kimbo. Not to mention the fact that the ref had the nerve to separate and try to stand them up again with 2 seconds left in the round. That was the equivalent to a stoppage in a LEGITIMATE league. Kimbo was unresponsive and had to be picked up off the ground and helped to his corner by his cornermen. 3rd round- a 3 punch combo that didn’t even knock down Thompson (with his glass jaw) was the reason for the stoppage. The dude didn’t even fall down and was still throwing punches of his own the entire time. this fight sucked and so does elitexc. FIX FIX FIX!!!

    This fight was completely fixed! The only reason that stupid ref called the fight when he did was because Kimbo had been so hyped up. Everyone thought Kimbo would mow over Thompson, so when Thompson was clearly making a bitch of Kimbo, EliteXC decided to call the fight in any way they could. And for any of you who say that Kimbo did a good job taking Thompson to the ground, you are idiots. Thompson took Kimbo to the ground many more times and worked his ass over. Kimbo laid on top of Thompson like a horny female wanting some dick. So, seriously. Kimbo is a joke. A complete joke. Thompson dominated that fight. And Kimbo definitely tapped in the first round. What a puss puss! And that ref, how ridiculous. Thompson’s ear was bleeding a lot worse in the first round. Why didn’t he call the TKO there? Kimbo Slice is a joke who won’t last in MMA. Thompson is a relatively new and fresh fighter, who gave Kimbo a run for his life. I would be willing to bet that Georges St. Pierre takes Kimbo the hell out…….

    I cant believe that there are people dumb enough to say kimbo won that fight. lets see he tapped out in round 1 the fight didnt get stopped he got beat to death in round 2 the fight didnt get stopped he lands 1 combo thats dosent ko thompson but bang stop the fight its over!!! fix fix fix fix fix. what would the judges have done if it went the distance? give it to slice when a blind man could see he got dominated all 3 rounds? maybe they should change their name to the WWE liete XC! they could make kimbo wear a mask and have tag team matches! the good news here is after kimbos 15 minutes of fame is over XC has no organization. I dont think girl fights is enough of a draw to keep them going.

    It was a terrible fight. While James could’ve easily gotten knocked out, the ref had no business stopping that fight. Elite XC turned into a joke by doing what they did. Oh yeah, the doctor should be fired for stopping the fight previous to that as well. I hate fixed fights……………
