Fedor opens as a huge favorite over Hong Man Choi

Fedor Emelianenko, arguably the best pound for pound mixed martial artist in the world has opened as a -800 (8-1) favorite for his December 30th M-1 Global fight against Hong Man Choi. The early odds were posted this week at online sportsbook Bookmaker.com.
Emelianenko, who has been at the center of much debate over his choice of choosing to fight in M-1 Global instead of the UFC, has a professional mixed martial arts record of 27-1-0. He has racked up notable wins in the past few years over Mark Coleman, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Kevin Randleman.
In this lopsided bout, Fedor is matched up against the 7′2”, 365 lb. Hong Man Choi. Choi, who is a kickboxer and ssirum wrestler, has suffered his whole life from a rare disease which prevents his growth from stopping. Choi is 12-3 in his professional kickboxing career and has been pegged as a +600 favorite in this bout.
The odds for this fight will probably move drastically between different sportsbooks. There are a few intangibles in this matchup that just seem to be unknown, so a wide range of odds will be very possible.
Bookmaker.com has a $250 limit on MMA fight betting. If you’re looking to bet more on this bout, I’d wait until BetUS.com releases the odds, as they have the highest limits in MMA betting.

UFC owner encourages legal betting on fights

In a statement made to the Las Vegas Sun on Monday, November 26th, UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta said he has no problem with people betting on UFC fights.
“If people want to bet legally on the UFC, we think that it’s not a bad thing”
Fertitta’s views on betting are polar opposite from those of other professional sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA and MLB. Leagues like the NFL hold a very strict stance on gambling and believe that betting on games tarnishes the image of the game.
I think the most rational solution for all sports betting is to legalize and tax it. The more we try to make sports betting illegal in all parts of the world, the more it will be driven underground where there are no rules and laws to govern it. If we can get it out in the open, then the governments can safely regulate the industry and put it in the hands of honest businessman instead of shady bookies.
Most major sports leagues understand that a portion of their viewers and fans are gamblers. It seems only natural to finally regulate it and allow people to wager in a safe environment.

- Clay Guida is an impressive 22-8 in his MMA career. Most of his wins have come by submissions, and a few others by decisions. His record in his past five bouts is 3-2, with wins coming against Marcus Aurelio, Justin James and Joe Martin. His last two losses came at the hands of Tyson Griffin and Din Thomas, both by a decision.
- Roger Huerta is 19-1-1 in his MMA career with a majority of his wins coming by the way of knockouts. Huerta is 5-0 in his previous five fights, and has recorded victories over Alberto Crane, Doug Evans, Leonard Garcia, John Halverson and Jason Dent. Huerta is a great young fighter, however his competition has yet to really test him thus far.

Underdogs bring home the cheddar in main bouts - UFC betting case study

In the past ten major UFC events (UFC 67-77), the underdogs are cashing in at a much higher rate than the odds suggest they should. After reviewing the fight odds and results from each UFC event, we have concluded that an underdog is the better wager in main event fights as well as fights in which there is a heavy favorite (-500 or more).
