UFC 74 - early pick discussions

UFC 74 is just over three weeks away, and the excitement is beginning to build in the forums and blogs around the Internet. While only a few of the UFC 74 fights have odds listed, there is already a large number of people posting their opinions and picks.

As of now, I think Gabriel Gonzaga will be a good bet for the main event. The amount of action Couture is receiving thus far doesn’t add up considering he is the underdog. Here’s a few of the sites that Im looking at to judge the public opinion for the bouts…

Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga 

MMANews forums - Couture has about 75% of the bets

MMAPlayground - Couture has 64% of the bets

MMAForum.com - Gonzaga has more people betting on him, but they’re also offering 2-1 on Gonzaga, so its a bit skewed.

General sports forums - Many general sports forums I’m seeing a lot of people talking about how this will be an “easy win” and “easy decision” for Couture.  Usually this is a bad sign for that side in sports betting.

My bet : As of now I will probably be betting 2-3 units on Gonzaga if everything plays out like I think it will.

Georges St-Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck

This fight seems pretty well balanced so far for the odds on the bout.  GSP is a pretty big favorite at -240, so there is around 80-85% of the public bettors already backing him.  This looks like a fight I’ll probably stay away from, but if I do make a wager it will be on Kos at +190.  It would be a solid value play for sure, and a bet that even if it lost I wouldnt regret making.  Kos seems to be undervalued by a lot of people right now, and he definitely has the talent to win this fight.

My bet : No bet as of now, but maybe a small play on Koscheck
